Autumn Sage is a Boorloo (Perth)-based singer-songwriter whose alt-chamber folk music, coupled with a poet's heart, has invoked comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Missy Higgins, Lior and Alanis Morrisette. Her poignant instrumentals and soaring melodies, paired with sincere and relatable lyrics, take the listener on an evocative emotional rollercoaster ride through themes of mental health, motherhoood and self-discovery. Autumn often performs with her trio - The Autumn Leaves - featuring evocative cello, contrapuntal vocal harmonies and percussion. Together they create a sound that is grounded in the tradition of folk storytelling but elevated by atmospheric, chamber-folk layers and sometimes pushing into alternative soundscapes.
Autumn grew up in Melbourne and started her musical journey as a classical pianist, but picked up the guitar at a young age, and it became the vehicle for many songs to come. She settled in Perth with her husband, and after a long hiatus to raise six children and navigate mental ill-health and chronic illness, Autumn returned to the industry in 2024 with a renewed, visceral perspective. Her songs tell the stories of the many life lessons learned over these years of musical incubation. Since her return, Autumn Sage has quickly gained momentum in the WA scene. Compelling live sets at iconic Perth venues like Mojo’s, Lyric’s Underground (supporting Perth folk royalty, Helen Shanahan), and Sofar Sounds, headlining two shows for her single launches, as well as being part of the lineups for the RTRFM Winter Music Festival and Blossom Festival.
