Written from the perspective of a mother of 6 with a later-life neurodivergence diagnosis, the lyrics confront the painful tendency to mask our true selves for the comfort of others. It evolves from a fragile infant's lullaby into a fierce, protective declaration for a grown man, challenging the societal pressure to become "palatable." This song is a prayer for the next generation. It's about wanting our children to bypass the years of hiding that so many of us endure, and to realise they are already entirely whole.

Lyrics

You, little child
Still so small, still so fragile
Trying to live, beginning to be
Not for anyone - you're a perfect little person

Me, I'm not that old
But old enough not to have to be told
That to live is to give
And I'm giving myself for my perfect little person

My prayer for you
Is that someday you'll be able to be
The man that you were always meant to be

You, my growing child
You're not so small, but you're still so fragile
Learning to hide the things that we
Find uncomfortable to make yourself palatable

Me, I'm still not old
But I've lived through quite a bit more
I've started to see how much of me
I have hidden just to make myself loveable

My prayer for you
Is that someday you'll be able to be
The man that you were always meant to be

You, will always be my child
And my hope is that you'll always be fragile
You should never need to hide the things
That make you uncomfortable
For the comfort of other people

Me, okay, now I'm old
And now I know what I want you to know
We were made the way we are
And when we stop hidling we're the perfect little person

My prayer for you
Is that someday you'll be able to be
The man that you were always meant to be
